Storing and checking trims with care
Keep trims organised through sorting, reference samples and checks before use.

Buttons, zippers and ribbons have different forms, so their storage arrangements should not be identical. Separate styles, colours and delivery batches and use labels that are easy to recognise. Match labels with purchasing records and approved samples so the source can be checked when needed. Clear organisation reduces confusion at the point of use and makes later questions easier to resolve.
Keep the area tidy and arrange items so handling does not squeeze them or cause unnecessary rubbing. Ribbons can be rolled suitably, zippers placed without repeatedly folding the same point, and buttons separated in appropriate packaging. Follow the supplier’s guidance for each material when deciding storage conditions instead of assuming similar-looking components have identical needs.
Before use, compare physical items with the approved reference and inspect colour, surface condition and edges. Try a zipper’s movement, look for obvious creases or edge problems in tape, and examine button holes and finishes. If something unusual is found, record it and discuss it with the relevant people before deciding how to proceed. Relate the check to the intended position.
For frequently used styles, keep a separate reference sample for ongoing comparison. Storage is about more than a neat shelf: it connects sample approval, issue to production and feedback when a question arises. Consistent labels and thoughtful checks before use give a practical foundation for bringing components into garment making in good condition, while keeping useful information close at hand.
